Tell your elected representatives

what you think about missile defence!

Writing a letter to your Member of Parliament or to the Prime Minister or the relevant Cabinet Minister is one of the best ways to show our elected officials that you consider a political issue to be a matter of concern and a priority for the government to address.

Canada's political leaders continue to claim that Canadians do not consider proposals to develop a missile defence system to be important. And although the Prime Minister of Canada has announced that Parliament will be given the opportunity to address Canada's participation in the US missile defence program, neither of the relevant House of Commons committees have yet added it to their agendas.

Here are 3 sample letters that you can use as a basis for writing to our Parliamentarians. Please keep in mind that a letter in your own words is taken more seriously than the same form letter sent by dozens or hundreds of people. The links above can take you to other helpful information about missile defence that you can use in your letter.

Depending on the nature of your letter, you may find it appropriate to send it to your local MP, the chairs of the House of Commons committees that would address missile defence (the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs), the relevant Cabinet Minister and official critics for each political party, or the Prime Minister. Key contacts in the 37th Parliament provides the relevant names, addresses, fax numbers and e-mail addresses. Don't forget, letters to Members of Parliament addressed to the House of Commons do not require postage.
