There will be a candle light vigil held every Tuesday night at 7 pm at City Hall.
Vancouver, October 31, 12 noon. Die-in. Basic street theatre in which participants pin identity tages (eg "innocent Afghan grandmother," "innocent Afghan child," "innocent WTC employee," "Canadian soldier," "UN aid worker," etc.) to their clothing before collapsing in a heap on the pavement and playing dead for 20 minutes or until threats of policy action deter them. Sites are different every time, but volunteers meet at the Georgia side steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery Wednesdays and Saturdays at noon before heading to their destinations. Volunteers can also elect to be non-theatrical, as two or more people are necessary to hand out leaflets and talk to passers-by, their secondary duty being to chalk outline the bodies of the dead in order to leave evidence behind. Very compelling and thought-provoking, this stuff makes people uncomfortable. Georgia side steps, Vancouver Art Gallery.
Toronto, October 31, 12 noon. Halloween Walk for Peace. Join us for a parade against the horrors of war, because on October 31 (or any other day for that matter), the only thing that should scare children is a really good costume, and not the terror of B-52 bombers dropping 1000-lb bombs and the loss of their families, homes, and villages. Meet at Yonge and Bloor, Northeast Corner Look for the Great Pumpkin, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny and other costumed folks! Come in costume, or come as you are Halloween props welcome. We will be trick or treating for peace down Yonge Street as we visit the representatives of governments responsible for the current slaughter being committed against the peoples of Afghanistan and Iraq. These same governments are creating even more poverty at home to pay for this war. For more info: Toronto Action for Social Change at (416) 651-5800
