Toronto May 7, 7 pm. Social Responsibility, Poverty, Terrorism: Risks and Rewards of Global Dialogue. Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs and ethicscentre.ca present an evening with John Dalla Costa. Crisis has always been a catalyst for renewal, and renewal opens us up to dialogue. For all the inevitability of globalization and the promise of new technology, our assumptions for development and trade no longer apply since September 11, even though there were early warnings about fissures in the global economy. Yet context and comprehension are as elusive for corporations as for society. Can differences in culture be bridged by trade agreements or development? Can globalization be somehow more inclusive and variable, rather than monolithic and uni-cultural? How can we create a context for dialogue to take progress in the right direction? Come and explore these issues with John Dalla Costa, author of The Ethical Imperative: Why Moral Leadership Is Good Business and Working Wisdom: The Ultimate Value in the New Economy. His commitment to a global ethic for a global economy has evolved over 20 years of business expertise as have his insights into the risks and rewards of dialogue. Location: Faculty Club, U of Toronto, 41 Willcocks St. (1 block S of Harbord, between Spadina and Huron). Organized by Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs, couch@couch.ca; tel: 416-494-1440; fax: 416-495-8723.
