Montreal, March 2, 12 pm. Operation Solidarity: A Day of Workshops and Discussions. Organized in conjunction with events and actions related to the International Day Against Police Brutality, Operation Solidarity is a day of workshops and discussion on: security and awareness culture in the activist community; the history of resistance to police and state repression; organizing political self-defense in immigrant communities; fighting back against attacks on immigrants and refugees; sustaining support for prisoners; and organizing and acting in solidarity. Schedule: workshops: noon - 6 p.m, dinner: 6-7 p.m., closing plenary and panel: 7-9 p.m. Workshops will take place in French, English and Spanish — with translation available in French, English and Spanish. The demonstration will rendezvous at York and Sussex, then at 12:15 will go up the stairs to Mackenzie, across the street, and down to the U.S. Embassy main entrance area. At 12:45 the march to Parliament Hill begins, ending at the Centennial Flame. The actions will last until 1:30 p.m. Please bring signs, placards, etc. Our network, which is made up of a diversity of members from within the community, seeks to build a broad-based coalition of organizations and individuals within the Ottawa region to advance the above goals by organizing events and increasing public awareness in the coming weeks and months. This coalition has three goals: to oppose terrorism in all its forms, the U.S. call to war, and Canada's participation therein; to oppose the racist backlash against people of colour, including attacks on immigrant and refugee rights; to oppose the erosion of civil liberties in the name of national security.

George will be sharing stories and insight on how movements around the world are fighting oppression through non-violent tactics and strategy. George is Director of "Training for Change" in Philadelphia. Training for Change is an organization dedicated to spreading the skills of democratic, non-violent social change. Vancouver, March 5, 9 am. Wargasm. This group show by three women artists is being exhibited in conjunction with International Women's Day celebrations. Wargasm has been widely acclaimed for its controversial exposure of the sexual politics of terrorism. The show features four main pieces: "What if Women Responded to Rape George Bush Style" — a series of cartoon-style charcoal drawings; "Bloody Typical" — 12 dioramas inspired by Robin Morgan; "Grab the Knife, Wife" — a 96' by 56' canvas; and "What Does a Rapist Look Like?" — a video installation. Ottawa, March 6, 12:15 pm. Vigil for Peace. "Women for Peace" hold a vigil for peace each Wednesday around the Flame at Parliament Hill. They stand there for 1/2 hour as silent witnesses for peace. They will continue to be there each Wednesday and ask anyone (women as well as men) to participate. The women wear a green scarf, which symbolizes their longing for peace, their hope for non-violent resolution of conflicts and their value of all life in creation. Bookmarks are given out to passers-by, stating: we are women of many cultures, many faiths, coming together as sisters to witness to our common values of peace, love and non-violence, for the sake of our children, our families, our earth. So far approximately 25-30 women have participated each week, women of different races and faiths. Some men have participated as well. Scarves can be bought for $5.- if one wishes. Please, men are certainly welcome, but this group wanted to put an emphasis on the women, who had taken this initiative. Location: Flame at Parliament Hill. Weekly. Halifax, March 8, 12 pm. Voice of Women Vigil: Women's Visions for Peace and Security. What is security for women? For elder women, it is universal pharmacare. For younger women, it is affordable post secondary education. For women with children, it is good quality schools and child-care. For low-income women, it is affordable housing. For women suffering violence, it is transition houses and women centres. While the world spends more than US $800 billon each year on military spending, the amount needed to meet the UN's goals to adequately feed, educate and provide safe water to the world's children is estimated at $30 to 40 billion. Montreal, March 10, 7:30 pm. Israeli Conscientious Objector Matan Kaminer and Israeli-Canadian writer Edeet Ravel will be speaking on Class, Occupation and Refusal in Israeli Society. Matan Kaminer is a third-generation Israeli peace activist. He was one of the signatories of the letter from 62 students to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, refusing military service. Edeet Ravel has a PhD in Jewish Studies and teaches at John Abbott College.  Her latest novel, The Things We Do, about Israel in the 1970s, is to be published in the spring. Toronto, March 12, 7:30 pm. 19 year old Israeli Conscientious Objector Visits University of Toronto on Speaking Tour and Local Video Artist Presents Images of Recent Protests. On March 12th, 19 year old Matan Kaminer will be addressing a Toronto audience at the University of Toronto about his decision to join a growing group of Israelis who are refusing to serve beyond the Green Line [Israel's pre-'67 border], who have stated they will not serve in the Occupied Territories of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. Kaminer is among 62 high school senior students who addressed a letter in September of 2001 to Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon expressing their refusal to take part in the execution of Israeli Defence Force policies in the Occupied Territories. Referring to themselves as "youths who grew up and were brought up in Israel," the group states that they will, "refuse to take part in acts of oppression against the Palestinian people". Also on the bill on March 12th is b.h. Yael, Associate Professor at the Ontario College of Art and Design. She will be screening footage she took of specific actions that occurred in the last days of 2001, contextualizing Kaminer's refusal within a larger atmosphere of opposition to the Occupation, both domestic and international.  Documentation includes images of marches organized by groups such as Women in Black, of Settler-occupied Hebron and of actions and protests supported by Internationals. Bookmarks are given out to passers-by, stating: we are women of many cultures, many faiths, coming together as sisters to witness to our common values of peace, love and non-violence, for the sake of our children, our families, our earth. So far approximately 25-30 women have participated each week, women of different races and faiths. Some men have participated as well. Scarves can be bought for $5.- if one wishes.
