Resolution On The Standoff At Caledonia, Ontario

Whereas the Government of Ontario has broken it's agreement to re-negotiate the settlement of the dispute regarding the Haldimand Land Tract near Caledonia, Ontario

And whereas the B.C. Southern Interior Peace Coalition supports the Grand River traditional clan mothers in their efforts to re-negotiate the Haldemand Land treaty

And whereas at present the Ontario Provincial Police and the Canadian military are preparing to use violence to end the non-violent protest against the granting of a building permit for a housing development on these disputed lands,

Therefore be it resolved that The Canadian Peace Alliance call on the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario to resolve this conflict non-violently and justly, in accordance with law and Aboriginal Rights; and take precautions that there is not an escalation of the situation such as happened in Ipperwash, Oka and Gustafsen Lake
