Resolution On Uranium Exploration And Mining In B.C.

Whereas uranium has never been mined in B.C.

And whereas uranium mining has been proven to cause serious environmental and health impacts

And whereas all forms of uranium have nuclear weapons potential

And whereas depleted uranium is used as a radiological weapon

And whereas any uranium in B.C. is in some community watershed

And whereas radon gas, a breakdown product of uranium may cause lung cancer

Therefore be it resolved that Canadian Peace Alliance demand that the Government of British Columbia reinstate the moratorium on uranium exploration and mining in B.C.;

And be it further resolved that the Canadian Peace Alliance:

· call on the Government of British Columbia to reactivate the public inquiry into the health and environmental effects and end uses including use for nuclear weapons of uranium exploration and mining in B.C.;
· call on the Government of Canada to refrain from awarding further mining rights.
