Resolution on Aboriginal Peoples in Canada and the peace movement
Whereas - Canada was founded on the colonial theft of Aboriginal lands;
- the denial of full national rights to Aboriginal peoples is a violation
of the United Nations Charter which calls for the self-determination of
peoples;
- a country that rejects the full democratic equality of nations, such as
First Nations within Canada, in its own borders can never have a democratic
foreign policy or speak with credibility or moral authority on occupations
by other countries;
Be it resolved
- that the Canadian Peace Alliance support the goal of achieving peace and
equality in the relations of nations in Canada just as we aim to achieve
such relations among nations everywhere;
- that the CPA actively support the full equality and self-determination
of Aboriginal nations along side all other nations in Canada, including
a speedy and just resolution of land claims, as an essential strategy to
achieve a democratic and credible foreign policy of peace and disarmament;
- that the Canadian Peace Alliance encourage member groups to invite Aboriginal
speakers at the start of event programs.
