Canadian Peace Alliance 20th Anniversary Conference, 2005
Outcomes

March 18th 2006

March 18th 2006 will be a global day of protest against the occupation of Iraq, marking the 3rd anniversary of the invasion. Let us make the March 18th day of action an opportunity to highlight Canadian complicity in the war in Iraq as well as the broad range of issues that the "War on Terror" has created.

It will be the key priority of the Canadian Peace Alliance to mobilize fellow Canadians across the country for this day and to create a broader movement by mobilizing within our communities, our places of work and our unions to truly reflect the diversity of Canadian society.

War Resisters Campaign

Since a growing number of US military personnel are deserting the US military and seeking refuge in Canada; and since Canada has yet to provide such a refuge by making a provision for US war resisters to stay in Canada; the Canadian Peace Alliance will continue to raise the plight of US war resisters and to pressure the Canadian government to let them stay.

In particular, the CPA members can play an important role in raising this issue throughout the upcoming federal election campaign.

Federal Election

With a federal election coming very soon, one priority will be to develop and implement a strategy to make peace an issue during the election.

We will emphasize the key strategic issues highlighted in the 2004 election and informed by the consensus flowing from this election.

Climate Change Actions

On December 3, 2005 a pivotal international meeting on climate change will take place in Montreal. Recognizing that dependence on fossil fuels is at the root of climate change and also the war on Iraq, the CPA calls on its member groups to mobilize on this day alongside the people in over 30 countries on each continent who are doing the same.
