Toronto, December 4, 7 pm. Guatemala: Quest for Peace and Democracy Continues. Dr. Vitalino Similox is a religious, political, and Mayan activist in Guatemala for the past 15 years, and has been at the centre of the struggle for democracy and peace with social justice in Guatemala. During his presentation, he will speak about the work of the Ecumenical Forum for Peace. He will also assess the achievements and failures of the Peace Accords that brought the 36 year-old civil war to a close in December 1996. Readings of Prose and Poetry. Location: Vodka Bar, 10324 Whyte Ave.
Last in the series. While the theme of "peace" isn't the only topic, Edmonton
poets have responded splendidly with new work and great messages in their poetry. Lots of
readers, new faces and good crowds. Accompanied by live improv music from the Raving Poets
Band, these poetry nights are part of the lively literary scene in our city. Each
evening's performance is recorded. Then, as an added bonus, selections from the evening
are played on CJSR radio (88.5 FM) the following Wednesay from 9-11 a.m. on Master
Crocodile's morning broadcast.

Her work has earned her the John Humphrey Freedom Award from Rights & Democracy (International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development, which she will receive in Montreal on December 10.
